Networking!

Conference attendance provides continuing education sessions and valuable networking opportunities. The networking at each of these meetings provides a tremendous support system to utilize for sharing knowledge and brainstorming new ideas. Whether grabbing dinner with people in your region, attending a meet and greet, or splitting off into a breakout session, meeting and collaborating with your peers is extremely important as we are all working toward excellence in fellowship education. Discussing common challenges and opportunities can help open the door to valuable suggestions and guidance and often help build lifelong friendships!

Networking, however, doesn’t only happen at conferences! Look for other opportunities to network, such as with other program managers at your institution. Join specialty-specific societies and listservs and frequent websites, such as COFTOG’s, that promote and support fellowship program manager education. Whether you’re brand new to your position, or you’ve been doing it for years, you don’t have to go through this alone. Help, support, and great ideas are out there!
